Obituaries
Doris L. Grant, 64 of rural Columbus, KS died at 2:05 pm Monday, May
17, 2010 at the Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO following a short
illness.
She was born October 6, 1945 in Columbus the daughter of Joseph J.
and Mildred L. (Scowden) Grant. She attended area schools and
graduated from the Columbus High School.
Doris worked at the Parsons State Hospital for many years as a
secretary; she also worked for the PSU Health Dept and the Cherokee
County Superintendents office.
She was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in
Columbus. She was also a member of the Sperry-Galligar Audubon
Society and was an avid bird watcher and Nature lover.
Survivors include a brother Danny Grant of rural Columbus, a sister
Louise Ferraro of Columbus; a nephew Jim Ferraro and wife Lori of
Baxter Springs, KS; a niece Kathy Ferraro and her family Gary and
LuAnne Pugh of Pittsburg; along with a great niece and nephew Ben and
Annisa Ferraro of Baxter Springs.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 am, Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the St.
Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon with Fr. Chrysostom Ah Maung
and Fr. Larry Parker as concelebrants. Burial will follow in the St. Bridget’
s Catholic Cemetery. Parish rosary will be recited at 7 pm Wednesday at
the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir. Family will receive friends

Memorials may be left to the St. Rose of Lima and/or the St. Bridget’s
Catholic Churches; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
