Louis Junior Emerson, 87 of Pittsburg, KS died at 4:27pm, Wednesday,
January 13, 2010 at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg, KS.
Louis was born May 30, 1922 in Pittsburg, KS to Edward Louis and
Nancy Nadine (Willey) Emerson. He attended area schools.
On April 26, 1941, in Girard, KS, he married Leona Holloway. She
survives of the home.
Louis served his country in the United States Navy. While serving he
received the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal and the
American Area Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged on
March 24, 1946 as a Machinist Mate 3rd Class.
Louis worked as a machinist for McNally’s, Kansas City Southern
Railroad and the Webb Corporation. He later owned and operated
Emerson Machine Shop in Pittsburg.
Louis was a member of the Open Door Fellowship Center. He
belonged to the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship. He held a 57
year membership in the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post #64 and
was a longtime member of the V.F.W. Post #1158 both of Pittsburg. Louis
was also a licensed minister. He was a member of the Machine Shop
Advisory Committee and belonged to the Vocational Technical Institute
both at Kansas State Teachers College, known today as PSU, in
Pittsburg.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Shirley and Fern;
brothers Ed, Maurice and Richard; granddaughter Kari Emerson Spiers
and grandson Eric Adams.
Additional survivors include his sons Ron Emerson (Pat) of Pittsburg
and Tom Emerson (Sally) of Garnett; daughter Susan Adams (Frank) of
Pittsburg; brother Don Emerson and sister Midge Stacy both of CA; along
with 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces
and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 16, 10:00AM, at the
First Church of the Nazarene. Celebration of Life immediately following
with Kent Morgan officiating. A flag presentation will be held by the
Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post #64. The family suggests
expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to Relay For Life,
Angels Among Us and the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post #64.
