Obituaries
Dorothy W. Bourne, 85 of Pittsburg died at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday
September 13, 2011 at the Via Christi Village in Pittsburg .
She was born September 28, 1925 in Dayton , OH the daughter of
Norman Rider and L. Margaret (Simpson) Wood.
Dorothy has lived in the Pittsburg area since 1961, prior to
moving here she lived in Dayton , OH , Grundy and Somerset , KY and
Nevada , MO.
Upon her High School matriculation Dorothy attended secretarial
school in Lexington , KY.
Dorothy married Joseph Charles Bourne on October 16, 1947 in
Somerset , KY ; he preceded her in death on July 20, 1993.
She worked in the home during her younger years. Later in life
and while she was living in Pittsburg Dorothy was a Legal Secretary for
the then county attorney Louie Barney.
Dorothy was a member of the First Christian Church in Pittsburg ,
she was active in Sunday School and enjoyed helping at their annual
rummage sales. She was a 50 plus year member of the Beta Sigma Phi
International sorority and was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader in the
1950’s when her daughter’s were young.
Survivors include a son Tim Bourne and wife Amy of Joplin, MO;
two daughters Karen Hammell and husband Nyle of Chandler, AZ, Libby
LeMaster and husband Rick of Wellington, KS; 10 grandchildren-Chris
and Erik Lewis, Rick and Jeremy LeMaster, Lindsay Bourne Green, Mary
Beth Bourne, Meg Bourne, Judi Hammell, Linda Fernandez and Peggy
Beutler; 13 Great-grandchildren-Donna and Rich Fernandez, Nicholas
and Alex Munro, Sean and Tiffany Beutler, Kaylee, Devon, Kayden and
Destiny Lewis, Zoie Lewis, Miles LeMaster and Rider Green. She was
preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday September 16th at the
First Christian Church in Pittsburg with Reverend Kevin Arensman
officiating, burial will follow in the Fort Scott National Cemetery . The
family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home in Pittsburg where friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday.
